WHZ View: West Ham fans aware of Moyes excellence despite Simon Jordan claim
Simon Jordan has heaped praise on West Ham boss David Moyes and the job he’s done since the start of his second reign at the London Stadium.
Moyes has taken the Hammers from relegation battlers to European football hopefuls in the space of just 14 months. His side are unrecognisable this season, losing just six times in the 2020/21 campaign.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan said he wants the Hammers to qualify for Europe. “I hope they do it” he said.
“Not because I’m a great supporter of David Gold or David Sullivan, but I’m a great supported of David Moyes. I think the West Ham fans didn’t know what they had the first time round.
“There was a lot of vitriol about Moyes coming in uninspired, going back to the old merry-go-round. But he brought him back the second time, I think the same narrative was being peddled out by certain sections of the West Ham fans.”
Our of our hands
Whilst Jordan is absolutely correct to laud the boss for his transformation of the club, he is incorrect to suggest that fans were clueless of his abilities.
West Ham fans were fully aware of what we had the first time when Moyes was in charge.
The Scot had just saved us from an inevitable looking relegation to the Championship. Such fate would have left the club in turmoil. Moved from our rightful home into the then lifeless Olympic bowl. It could have been catastrophic for the club if we went down, and the fanbase were grateful for Moyes doing the job he did.
To say we weren’t aware of what we had is incorrect. The choice to let him go was never one made by the fanbase. David Sullivan said at the time that the club would look to appoint a ‘top calibre’ manager after Moyes had spared us. He appointed Pellegrini, but that’s a story for another day.
Regardless of Jordan’s opinion, the fans have a lot of admiration for Moyes. It’s only developed more since he came back a second time.
