WHZ View: David Moyes spot on to praise West Ham medics, Diop set to start v Sheff Utd
West Ham United boss David Moyes has heaped praise on the medical team who dealt with Issa Diop against Manchester United.
The French enforcer became the first player to be replaced with a concussion substitute since they introduced this season.
Angelo Ogbonna also went off injured at Old Trafford, meaning that Moyes could have had a real headache for the Premier League clash against Sheffield United.
Moyes claimed that his medical team made the right decision to take Diop off.
“My medical team took the right action,” he said.
“It was a tough one because we were short of players. But Issa had a bump on his head, which was a bit of an egg so we took him off. Interestingly, Anthony Martial played on.
“We felt we did the things which were the best for our player.”
It appears to have been the perfect decision though, with Diop now set to be available against the Blades, with his concussion no longer around.
With Ogbonna ruled out, Fabian Balbuena could have come in, but it may be Diop.
The 24-year-old has only made three starts in the Premier League this season and will have been crying out for more game time after his recent years.
Should he have lost that opportunity to have staked his claim for a starting spot, it will have been a massive blow to his confidence.
Moyes has a wealth of options in defence after the arrival of Craig Dawson, and giving Diop this chance would do him the world of good.
The decision to take Diop off early at Old Trafford has given him the perfect chance to start against Sheffield United on Monday.
