WHZ Tactics: West Ham must be patient to break down Wolves

West Ham welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the London Stadium on Sunday looking to get back to winning ways after successive draws.

David Moyes’ side have drawn their previous two against Leicester City and Newcastle United and have lost ground in the race for the top four as a result.

So have their visitors though who were beaten late on against Arsenal on Thursday through a Josa Sa own goal.

Wolves have one of the best defences in the Premier League with only Manchester City and Chelsea having conceded less than Bruno Lage’s side.

They might not score many but they know their game and Sunday’s test will be a tough one for Moyes’ men.

Analysing their game against Arsenal, you can see why they have conceded so few through sheer organisation at the back.

This is moments before the Gunners levelled the game at the Emirates and the low-block back five is as in shape as it can be.

The midfield duo are also shuffling across together well but the ball over the top is still on.

Once it is played and Eddie Nketiah runs onto it, chaos reigns in the Wolves defence with players all over the place.

As a result, Nicolas Pepe was able to steal into this open space on the edge of the six-yard box to equalise.

It can be incredibly frustrating to play against when it is working though as highlighted above.

Wolves have nine outfield players in and around the area to stop Arsenal from picking them apart, resulting in a long shot out of pure frustration.

West Ham have to be more patient than this and bide their time before picking holes in the otherwise airtight Wolves defence.

In other West Ham news, this senior player has picked up yet another injury ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
