WHZ Moment of the Match – Benrahma misses glorious chance to get West Ham career started

West Ham drew 0-0 with Southampton on Monday night as the Hammers shared the points in their second successive Premier League game.

David Moyes named a slightly rotated squad after only playing Brighton two days ago and his side achieved another draw against opposition from the south coast.

There was still no place in the side for Said Benrahma as he started on the bench but the Algerian was given half an hour to work his magic at St Mary’s.

Unfortunately for him, he only had one decent chance to make an impact and he didn’t take it.

What a chance it was.

The ball dropped for Benrahma inside the six-yard box and the winger did ever so well to take the ball down and get it under control.

All he had to do was put the ball in the Southampton net and he would’ve got his new side three points and given Moyes a real selection headache ahead of the Hammers’ next game against Everton.

But, he missed.

More accurately, Alex McCarthy made a decent save but from that position, Benrahma simply has to score.

In the end, the miss cost the Hammers a vital win but on a personal level, Benrahma had an excellent chance to jump-start his Irons career and he didn’t take it.

The former Brentford man now faces a crossroads where he could either come back stronger or let his head drop.

It is imperative that Benrahma comes back from this as we all know how good he can be on his day even though it hasn’t quite happened for him since his move to the London Stadium.

A goal tonight would’ve eased a lot of the doubt that has been raised around Benrahma as well as giving the Hammers a valuable away win.

If Benrahma gets a chance against Everton he simply must take it as Moyes must be running out of patience with his summer acquisition.

In other West Ham news, we have had a look at why Moyes hasn’t been starting Benrahma.
