West Ham’s summer signing could leave already after what happened vs QPR
One West Ham star has no future at the club after missing out on their FA Cup clash.
West Ham beat QPR 2-1 on Sunday to advance to the next round of this season’s FA Cup, with Crysencio Summerville and Taty Castellanos both getting on the scoresheet.
Nuno Espirito Santo made very few changes to his starting 11, though the likes of Mads Hermansen and Ezra Mayers were both handed starts.
However, there was one notable omission from their clash at the London Stadium, and it speaks volumes about where his future lies.
Igor Julio has no business at West Ham
In what many saw as a strange move, Igor Julio joined West Ham on loan from Brighton in the summer, despite at one point looking as though he was destined for a move to Crystal Palace.
Since then, the 27-year-old has made just four appearances for the Hammers, with just 103 minutes of football played under Nuno.
Given his lack of gametime, it was assumed that he would be handed a start in the FA Cup, but the Brazilian was unable to even make the bench.
When taking into account the struggles of Max Kilman, it makes little sense as to why he was brought in, only to not feature for the Irons.
There is every chance that his loan at the London Stadium is cut short in January, and if so, it’s difficult to say that he would be missed.
Graham Potter’s Igor Julio verdict looks silly now
Igor featured quite regularly for Brighton in his first two seasons in the Premier League, but as their ambitions grew, his gametime dropped.
That was what ultimately initiated his loan exit, but his absence since then has been very, very strange when you consider how minuscule the Hammers have struggled defensively, and even more baffling when taking into account how Graham Potter hailed the impact he would have here.
Back in September, Potter said: “He is an experienced defender with a good pedigree, who knows the Premier League well and has impressed during his time with Brighton.
“He has strengths and qualities that we believe will help us and add to what we already have here, and I know he is really excited about the challenge and wearing the West Ham United shirt.”
West Ham fans are yet to see those qualities, and there is a strong chance they never will.
