West Ham United v Liverpool atmosphere claim damning for David Moyes
If further proof was needed that David Moyes’ time at West Ham is up, it arrived before a ball was even kicked against Liverpool.
The Irons played out a respectful 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Saturday’s (27 April) early kick-off, coming on the back of last week’s hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace.
While Moyes would have been grateful to finally have a chance to put things right, the supporters were clearly not behind him.
David Moyes future at West Ham remains uncertain
Indeed, as pointed out by Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele on X [27 April], the atmosphere before the game was non-existent.
“Have to say this is the flattest pre-match atmosphere of a game I’ve been to this season,” Steele said.
He certainly was not wrong, either, as those in attendance just could not get themselves up for what should have been a standout fixture.
In fact, it took until Jarrod Bowen’s goal right at the end of the first half before the first real notable noise was made.
While the Irons’ record against Liverpool has been terrible for a while now, the lack of atmosphere was more down to recent performances.
Had Moyes already announced he will be departing in the summer, you can safely assume the fans would have been much louder.
Even if more and more fans now want to see that back of Moyes, they still respect what he has done and would like to show him their gratitude.
As it is, though, the incredibly flat atmosphere before kick-off just added further proof to the fact that a change is desperately needed at the club to freshen things up.
