West Ham United show immense transfer strength with handling of stars

West Ham United have flexed their muscles effectively so far in the summer transfer window with the way they have handled interest in their key men.

It comes as nothing new for Hammers fans that as soon as one of their players starts to perform, a host of elite clubs come sniffing.

Last season as David Moyes’ side pushed on all fronts, two men, in particular, stood out – Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen.

Gareth Southgate has certainly taken notice of the London Stadium duo with them both now playing in the England squad but unfortunately so have a lot of potential suitors for the star duo.

Claret & Hugh [13 June] have reported that Bowen will be staying at the club amid interest from Liverpool, Tottenham and more recently fellow north London club Arsenal.

Rice also looks to be staying amid continuous links away after turning down his fourth contract at the club [Sky Sports, 12 May].

Defiance.

West Ham are taking no rubbish from anybody it seems. It doesn’t matter who comes in or how much money they are willing to throw at the cockneys, they aren’t interested.

In seasons gone by, the Hammers might have rolled over and accepted their fate as clubs circle around their star player but not anymore.

However much the so-called elite want to offer is irrelevant – the Irons chief will either slap a ginormous price tag on their players’ heads or say no it is that simple.

Long may it continue too because Moyes’ side has gone from strength to strength since the Scot took charge and last season serves as proof.

The Irons getting to a European semi-final and being disappointed not to have won whilst pushing for the top four and deep into both domestic cups is completely unheard of.

Maintaining this momentum is key and that can only be done by keeping hold of their best players.
