West Ham United need to force swift transfer after Crysencio Summerville blow
West Ham could be forced into selling some non-homegrown stars to make room for Crysencio Summerville in their squad.
Sources close to the Hammers, reported by West Ham Football via X on 14 August, “have confirmed” that the Dutchman is not classed as homegrown.
This is despite signing for Leeds United when he was 18 and staying at Elland Road until he was 22.
The attacker does not count as a homegrown player however because he only played for the Whites for 2 years and 44 days before turning 21.
The Premier League handbook rules state that a player must be registered with a club for three seasons or 36 months before their 21st birthday, a requirement that Summerville didn’t meet.
Julen Lopetegui could now be forced into selling some non-homegrown players to make space for the new number seven.
West Ham forced into sales after Crysencio Summerville update
Each squad can not contain more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” criteria for the season [Premier League].
With that being said, the Hammers may now be forced into selling some stars to be able to meet the league rules and register their new signings.
West Ham Football reported (14 August) that the likes of Kurt Zouma, Maxwel Cornet and Danny Ings are all surplus to requirements at the London Stadium beyond this summer.
The latter would fill the homegrown quota but the others would free up space for fresh faces like Summerville to be registered.
With the season fast approaching and transfer deadline day coming up, the Hammers hierarchy will need to move quickly to move these players on.
They have tried with Zouma being heavily linked with a move away from East London but is now looking for a new club after a move to Dubai fell through [The Times].
If Lopetegui can move on the Frenchman, he will have space to register his new man from Leeds without breaking any league rules ahead of his debut campaign for the Hammers.
