West Ham United must play Flynn Downes to take Tomas Soucek out of firing line

West Ham United return to Premier League action on Saturday when they welcome Wolves to the capital in Saturday’s evening kick-off.

So far this season, David Moyes has not had to worry about his central midfield partnership of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek who have both played every game so far.

But the Czech Republic international has been under fire recently for a lack of form both for the Irons and his national side.

West Ham

The Czech Republic were beaten 2-1 by Switzerland on Tuesday evening and the national media did not hold back on the 27-year-old, with Blesk rating him 3/10 having “fell asleep” for the Swiss side’s first goal.

He also missed a penalty to level the scores at 2-2 which Idnes labelled as a “weak, ill-placed” effort while he received another 3/10 rating from Sport.CZ.

Having been equally underwhelming for West Ham so far this season, the visit of Wolves might be the perfect chance to take him out of the firing line for a game and allow Flynn Downes his long overdue chance in the top flight.

The boyhood Hammers fan looked the real deal away at Silkeborg as he commanded the game from midfield just as he had done at home to FCSB in the previous Europa Conference League fixture.

West Ham

The 23-year-old made the summer move from Swansea City hoping to make his mark in the Premier League but has not yet had the chance to do so and this seems to be as good a time as any.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves might come up with a very strong midfield with Ruben Neves, Matheus and Joao Moutinho but that is the kind of test that he needs.

Moyes has been stubborn to change things far too often during his time at West Ham and he has t snap out of it and make the big decision to drop one of his stalwarts.
