West Ham United must move fast for new technical director or risk Edson Alvarez transfer failure

West Ham United must move fast for a new technical director or risk missing out on their desired targets in the summer transfer window.

The Telegraph reported on 15 June that the Hammers were just days away from deciding whether to appoint a new technical director at the London Stadium, with former Bayer Leverkusen director Tim Steidten standing a “50/50” chance of filling the vacant position.

The club are ready to press on with their decision-making after the news that David Moyes is set to remain as manager next season after their Europa Conference League success.

However, the longer the wait, the more problems they could stumble into.

Whoever is brought into the vacant position is due to be given a large say in the transfer activity moving forward, with a restructure at the top of the club expected.

The Hammers’ business from last summer has been widely scrutinised, with the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta and Thilo Kehrer all struggling at different points in the last 12 months.

And with Declan Rice set to exit the London Stadium in the coming weeks, transfer incomings have never been as important as they are now.

If West Ham don’t appoint a new technical director soon or madly decide against bringing somebody in, it could leave them on the back foot in their hunt for their desired transfer targets.

The Hammers simply cannot afford a poor transfer window, especially with the added burden of European football next season.

The new technical director appointment looks like the key that will unlock what is an extremely important window for West Ham United.
