West Ham United must make £25m approach for David Raum

Aaron Cresswell is the only recognised left-back in the West Ham United senior team and David Moyes could do with another for competition.

The 32-year-old has been an exceptional performer for the Irons over the past eight years and more than 250 appearances but the end of the 2021-22 campaign saw some cracks start to appear.

Two almost identical red cards in the Europa League knockout stages made things very hard for West Ham and we couldn’t make amends in the semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt as we did against Lyon in the previous round.

So Moyes has begun to search for a new left-back to challenge the Englishman and it could be Hoffenheim’s assist machine David Raum who has been linked with a move to the London Stadium by BILD.

The 24-year-old picked up an astonishing 13 assists in the Bundesliga last season as his wicked delivery from wide areas caused havoc in the defences he came up against.

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are also in the hunt to sign Raum this summer, who is likely to leave according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg, and he could be available for just £25million.

Even though he is something of an unknown in the Premier League, a full-back who gets that many assists, to go along with three goals as well, is always worth a transfer tussle given the importance of that position in modern-day football.

It seems like an absolute no-brainer to bring the German to the London Stadium and he can be the younger, faster Cresswell that Moyes can put his faith in for the next eight years before another left-back comes into view.

In other West Ham news, we may have to fork out a huge £70million to bring one of our biggest midfield targets to the capital.
