West Ham United must beat Arsenal to sign Gianluca Scamacca this summer

West Ham are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca in the summer.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers could face strong competition from the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United for signing the striker.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular campaign for the Italian club, where he netted 16 goals last season (2021-22).

The Hammers need to sign a striker this summer, and they have been linked with players like Sasa Kalajdzic, Armando Broja or even Gabriel Jesus.

Michail Antonio has been the lone striker at the club, and the Hammers tend to struggle when he goes through a slump in form. The club need to add depth and quality in that department.

However, if the Hammers can get Scamacca ahead of other rivals, it would be a transfer masterstroke.

Obviously, Moyes will be looking to sign a player who has prior Premier League experience. But, Scamacca, who has featured for his country Italy, would be a different quality. No wonder why clubs like Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are sniffing around him.

He is keen to test himself elsewhere and would be looking to move if there’s an offer on the table. Cash-strapped Sassuolo are also looking to sell some of their players, and it presents the Hammers with a fine opportunity to sign him.

Arsenal are heavily interested, but doubts remain whether the Gunners will move for him after they have offered Eddie Nketiah a new deal [Evening Standard].

Considering his age and his rapid progress, his signing could be a transfer jackpot for the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, a deal is on the cards to sign a forward who Moyes once compared to Wayne Rooney.
