West Ham United may rue Edin Terzic call amid new Manchester United manager news

Manchester United are considering former West Ham managerial target Edin Terzic to replace Erik ten Hag, should they sack him, according to Sport BILD.

The German media outlet reported on 6 June that the Red Devils along with Leicester City are both keeping tabs on the former Hammers assistant manager.

TEAMtalk reported on 25 April that he was being considered by the London outfit as well but David Sullivan and Tim Steidten ended up hiring Julen Lopetegui.

West Ham may regret not hiring Edin Terzic

Terzic’s managerial experience and success at Borussia Dortmund demonstrate his ability to lead a top-tier club.

He took over as interim manager at Dortmund in December 2020, leading the team to a DFB-Pokal victory and a strong finish in the Bundesliga.

His tactical acumen and man-management skills have been praised, and he has shown an ability to develop young players.

He also took his side to the Champions League final and managed to dominate Real Madrid despite losing 2-0.

In contrast, Lopetegui, who got the job, has had mixed success in his managerial career.

While he achieved success at Sevilla, winning the Europa League, his tenure at Real Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers was less successful.

Lopetegui’s style of play has been criticised for being overly defensive and lacking creativity.

If Terzic were to succeed at Manchester United or Leicester City, it would be a significant achievement and could highlight the Hammers’ missed opportunity in not hiring him.

Seeing Terzic lead a top Premier League club to success could lead to regret among West Ham fans and officials, especially if Lopetegui fails to meet expectations at the London Stadium.

Terzic’s potential success elsewhere could serve as a reminder of what could have been for the Irons.
