West Ham United may live to regret summer decision after what Samu Omorodion did
West Ham United were among the busiest clubs in football during the summer transfer window.
Julen Lopetegui was confirmed as head coach, with Tim Steidten bringing in plenty of new faces to back that up at the London Stadium.
Big names such as Niclas Fullkrug and Max Kilman were brought in to help bolster the ranks.
Despite Fullkrug eventually being signed, it was Samu Omorodion who looked to be the preferred option despite that move never getting off the ground [HITC, 18 April].
The Spaniard was willing to move to London, but due to multiple bids being rejected, with the highest even coming in at £29.5million [Fabrizio Romano, 15 June], nothing came to fruition.
West Ham may now regret not making a higher bid for the striker as he’s just scored four goals for Spain’s Under-21s against Malta in a 6-0 home win and has played a starring role for Porto this term.
West Ham United left red-faced over Samu Omorodion
Fullkrug was welcomed with open arms to the London Stadium but his extended period on the sidelines hasn’t allowed him to make as much of an impact as he’d have wanted.
The injury has kept the German sidelined for so long and has almost certainly impacted performances this season.
It’s also made it hard for fans to not think about how different things could have been if someone such as Omorodion or Jhon Duran was brought in rather than the 31-year-old.

There’s plenty of time for Fullkrug to prove his worth upon his return of course but it feels like West Ham have once again been hit with a curse.
Danny Ings and Michail Antonio haven’t managed to find consistent goalscoring form while filling in for the German and, if things don’t turn around soon, questions will start to be asked.
