West Ham United may have to cough up cash for Aaron Wan-Bissaka after ‘brilliant’ Manchester United performance

West Ham may have to pay more than initially expected for Aaron Wan-Bissaka after the 25-year-old capitalised on a rare Manchester United start on Wednesday night.

The Hammers are eager to bring in a new right-back over January, with Vladimir Coufal slipping down David Moyes’ pecking order and Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer both struggling to fill the position.

According to Manchester Evening News, West Ham have shown interest in Manchester United right-back Wan-Bissaka after it became clear that Erik ten Hag preferred Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford.

The report states that the Irons would prefer to take Wan-Bissaka on loan, but with Ten Hag wanting the London-born defender out of his dressing room, United could demand either a permanent deal or an obligation to buy at the end of his loan spell.

Whatever fee Moyes and West Ham had in mind though might have just multiplied after Wan-Bissaka put on a brilliant performance for the Red Devils against Burnley on Wednesday night.

Wan-Bissaka was handed a rare start at Old Trafford in the round of 16 Carabao Cup clash and he rewarded Ten Hag with a brilliant assist for Christian Eriksen’s opener. Wan-Bissaka made a darting run into the box and was at full stretch when he fired the ball across the box for his Danish teammate.

Gary Neville was quick to praise Wan-Bissaka for his assist but also mentioned why Ten Hag is keen to sell him this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (21 December, 9pm), Neville said: “He is pretty solid defensively.

“But a lot is expected of a modern full-back. We often say that he’s not good enough with the ball. I agree with that, but that assist was absolutely brilliant.”

While it’s not ideal financially for West Ham, at least Wan-Bissaka’s impressive performance reassures Moyes that he is still capable of performing at a very high level.

The Scotsman was probably keeping a keen eye on his January target on Wednesday night and would have liked what he saw.
