West Ham United may have dropped indirect David Moyes sack hint as Michael Carrick news emerges

West Ham United may have dropped an indirect David Moyes sack hint in the near future after news emerged on Middlesbrough boss and former player Michael Carrick.

According to Sean Whetstone posted on Twitter on Monday (11 December), an intermediary has already made contact with Carrick over the possibility of becoming the new Hammers manager.

The Middlesbrough coach has been approached to discover whether or not he would be interested in taking over at the London Stadium next summer with Moyes’ contract set to in June.

The Athletic reported on 11 December that Moyes is said to retain the full backing of the West Ham United board despite the embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday (10 December).

Moyes’ position is said to not be under threat at this moment and he has the full support of those above him, but his stock among fans is threatening to nosedive again.

David Sullivan and Karren Brady are expected to review Moyes’ position by the end of the current campaign, with a reluctance to sack him before the end of his current contract [The Athletic, 7 December].

However, with Moyes’ stock amongst the Hammers fanbase taking a huge drop in recent weeks, it certainly seems as if the club have already identified their next ideal candidate if they were to pull the plug.

The Manchester United legend has done a tremendous job at Middlesbrough since his appointment in October 2022, winning 30 of his 57 games in charge so far, favouring a proactive and attractive brand of football at Teesside but also rejuvenating a sleeping giant in the Championship by consistently fighting for the playoffs.

Carrick may present a risk for the West Ham United board given his lack of experience at this level, with his only experience coming as caretaker manager after Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s sacking at Old Trafford.

It is clear that West Ham United fans want a clear and attractive philosophy at the London Stadium with several fans growing tired of Moyes’ reserved and reactive approach at the club.

Whether or not the Irons have or will make an approach for Carrick, it does appear as though Moyes’ days at West Ham may be numbered, and at the end of the day, Sullivan and Brady will consider fans’ views and feelings.

This brand-new development certainly suggests the club are already eyeing up candidates to replace the Scotsman should he leave at the end of his contract.

But, there’s also the indirect hint that they’ve got one name lined up should Moyes be sacked before then.
