West Ham United have to sack David Moyes after disgraceful scenes

West Ham United and David Moyes were completely embarrassed by Crystal Palace as they were brushed aside at Selhurst Park.

The Hammers, off the back of their good performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, were miles off of the pace against the Eagles on Sunday (21 April) as they were beaten 5-2, conceding four times in the first half.

While a slight dip in performance could be expected after a European exit, the defeat will have only increased the pressure on Moyes at the London Stadium and you’d have to imagine his tenure in East London is about to come to an end.

The Scotsman has insisted that he has been offered a new deal to extend his stay beyond the end of the season and he also admitted he would like to remain in charge following the Europa League defeat at the London Stadium.

But that decision must now simply be taken out of his hands as it is clear that he is no longer equipped to take this side to the next level. His previous work has been excellent, but it is now time for a change in the dugout.

West Ham United must sack David Moyes after embarrassing defeat to Crystal Palace

The Irons are meant to be a side seriously challenging for Europe this season, but they are now looking ineffective both going forward and defensively against sides that they simply have to be beating.

Losing 6-0 to Arsenal was embarrassing and there were plenty of pundits who felt that defeat warranted Moyes being sacked, but Sunday’s loss at Selhurst Park was arguably even worse as the Irons looked lost against a midtable side.

There are other options available to take over the reigns at the London Stadium and the time has come for that change to be made. Moyes has hit his ceiling at West Ham and whilst some will always say “Be careful what you wish for,” another manager will get more out of this side.

Hopefully, Moyes’ future will be decided on Sunday night. The Hammers need to begin preparing for next season and they cannot do that when they don’t know who will be in the dugout. Time has run out for the Scotsman.
