West Ham United: Flynn Downes could secure Kyle Walker-Peters switch after transfer admission
West Ham United have plenty to play for between now and the end of the season, but those in charge at the London Stadium will have one eye on the transfer window.
The Hammers were incredibly successful in the market last summer, signing the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse and they will be hoping that they can add similar quality at the end of the season.
David Moyes, or whoever is in charge at the London Stadium, will also be able to call upon players who have been on loan away from East London including Flynn Downes who has impressed in the Championship with Southampton.
The 25-year-old has played 30 times for the Saints in the league this term, scoring twice and laying on two assits, impressing pundits, supporters and his teammates alike, including England international Kyle Walker-Peters.
As quoted by the Daily Echo (16 April) he said: “He’s [Downes] shown how much of a top player he is. He’s still young and whatever happens, I’d love to play with him next season. But that’s out of my hands.
“He’s been excellent this season. So we’ll see what happens.”
Door now open for West Ham to complete summer transfer for Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters
The Hammers have been credited with an interest in Walker-Peters in previous transfer windows [talkSPORT, 14 December] and his latest admission could well open the door for a deal to be agreed this summer, especially if Downes stays at the London Stadium.
While the 27-year-old will have likely been hinting that he would like the West Ham loanee to complete a permanent switch to St Mary’s, his stance that he will “see what happens” could mean that a summer switch may be possible.

Whether or not the Irons will reignite their interest this summer remains to be seen, but you would have to imagine for the right fee, this is a deal that could certainly get over the line, especially if Southampton miss out on promotion.
As Walker-Peters suggested, we will just have to wait and see what the end of the season and the summer transfer window will bring, but his desire to play with Downes could play into the Hammers’ hands.
