West Ham United fans can relax over Lucas Paqueta saga as proposal submitted for replacement
West Ham fans’ biggest fears have become reality with Lucas Paqueta now linked with a London Stadium exit.
The Hammers have held new talks with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, according to Rudy Galetti [19 July], with Flamengo also determined to bring the 26-year-old back to Brazil [O Dia, 18 July].
It is almost impossible to mention Paqueta’s transfer links without mentioning him being charged with four separate counts of spot-fixing by the Football Association, charges he has passionately denied.
That may not be a problem for the Hammers for too much longer if they can strike a deal to see their star man leave the London Stadium this summer, but a replacement would be required to fill his shoes.
Paqueta has made 84 appearances since joining from Lyon in the summer of 2022, notching 13 goals and 14 assists and becoming the go-to guy for the Hammers.
It would be a huge blow if he were to depart this summer, but the club may have already found a replacement to soften the potential blow of his exit.
West Ham United preparing for Lucas Paqueta exit as Crysencio Summerville targeted
West Ham has submitted an initial proposal to Leeds United for Crysencio Summerville, according to Fabrizio Romano [22 July], with talks also taking place on the player’s side.
Without Paqueta, the 22-year-old could be added to the attacking ranks at the London Stadium alongside Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, as well as new signing Luis Guilherme.
The Dutchman notched 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, prompting interest from several European clubs.
His current manager, Daniel Farke, dubbed him a “baller” [Leeds Live] after being appointed at Elland Road last summer, and his verdict was absolutely right.
Given the conundrum surrounding Paqueta, it would be a smart move from the West Ham hierarchy to secure Summerville’s signature before other clubs get the chance to think about it.
