West Ham United fans can breathe sigh of relief as Fabrizio Romano shares Manchester City transfer update

West Ham have enjoyed a superb start to the new Premier League season, with the club unbeaten from their first three matches.

Their success has perhaps come as a surprise to many, given how the summer started with the loss of talisman Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The transfer situation at the London Stadium was in real danger of getting worse before it got better, with Manchester City making a bid for fellow star Lucas Paqueta earlier this month [Fabrizio Romano, 11 August].

Fortunately for the Hammers, that interest has seemingly cooled, with Pep Guardiola now turning his attentions to another Premier League ace.

According to Sky Sports (29 August), Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes is currently on strike in order to push through a move to the Etihad.

His actions come after his club rejected a £47million bid from the Premier League champions [Sky Sports, 24 August].

And Romano (30 August) has now provided an update on the potential deal, reporting that Manchester City are confident of signing the player this summer.

The whole saga will be welcome news to West Ham supporters, as the unwanted drama could have easily involved their star man Paqueta as opposed to Nunes.

Instead, their Brazilian ace has continued on from last season and hit the ground running in the new season in claret and blue.

The Hammers have two wins and one draw so far in the new campaign, with Paqueta playing a key role in all three matches, scoring in the 3-1 victory against Chelsea.

Fans of the London Stadium club may just be biting their nails as the transfer window draws to a close, as there is still time for the Brazilian attacker to make an exit this summer.

But it looks unlikely at this stage, much to the delight of the Hammers faithful, who need their midfield maestro if they are to enjoy a strong season in all competitions.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have held talks for a new striker, with a loan or permanent deal possible.
