West Ham United face intense battle to sign Hoffenheim defender David Raum

West Ham United face a huge battle to land Hoffenheim left-back David Raum after it was revealed that RB Leipzig are in advanced talks for 24-year-old Germany international.

It had been suggested by ExWHUemployee (via his Patreon) that Raum was a priority signing for David Moyes with a new left-back needed at the London Stadium.

However, The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano has suggested (via Twitter) on Thursday 21 July, that Raum is closing in on a move to Leipzig with negotiations at the final stages.

This is a blow for Moyes as the 24-year-old left-back would’ve been an excellent option for West Ham and a definite upgrade on their full-back options at present.

Aaron Cresswell is certainly past his best years and the West Ham boss cannot entrust Arthur Masuaku to be a reliable left-back throughout the whole season.

The Hammers will have to work quickly if they want to stand any chance of landing Raum, but right now it does look very unlikely for a move to materialise.

The West Ham boss must quickly identify another left-back target whilst also ensuring that he gets a move for a striker over the line.

Moves for Armando Broja and Gianluca Scamacca are still progressing in what would be a sensational double swoop for the Hammers.

If the Hammers can add two strikers, a left-back and potentially a backup in midfield then it would’ve been a successful summer at the London Stadium.

The next weeks could prove vital for West Ham and their overall summer business.
