West Ham United: David Sullivan now has no choice but to let cash fly after fresh London Stadium blow on Tuesday

David Sullivan now has no choice but to open his chequebook at the London Stadium as David Moyes faces an unwanted West Ham United injury crisis.

The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas (9 January) shared Jarrod Bowen is now expected to be out for at least a month after an injury suffered in the 1-1 draw against Bristol City (7 January) at the London Stadium.

Bowen, who scored his 14th goal in all competitions on Sunday, had to be assisted off the field by two members of the physio team, having injured his left ankle.

The Englishman now joins Michail Antonio who will be out for six weeks and now Lucas Paqueta who also faces over a month on the sidelines (The Guardian, 9 January).

Moyes will now be stuck between a rock and a hard place with this development at the London Stadium with now three of his most crucial and influential attackers now out of action.

Bowen is out for a month, and Paqueta and Antonio are now out for six weeks means Moyes is in a serious injury crisis at West Ham United and this can only mean one thing: David Sullivan must now let the cash fly to back Moyes this month with new signings.

It’s been no secret that the Hammers will have to sell players to buy players after their summer spend but given the injury mess now emerging in East London and the damage Bowen and Paqueta’s blows could have on their aspirations, Sullivan has no choice but to back Moyes and given technical director Tim Steidten the green-light to pursue targets.

90Min journalist Toby Cudworth, taking to his personal Twitter account (9 January) also suggests as much:

Just who Moyes will rely on to replace those three players is incredibly uncertain right now because Paqueta and Bowen have been the only Irons’ standout performers alongside Mohammed Kudus who is also nursing an injury while on AFCON duty with Ghana.

Danny Ings, Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet have all been on the periphery all campaign long and when given the opportunity, have all flattered to deceive which suggests they aren’t the solutions right now.

The Irons have been linked with plenty of attacking targets over the past week already in Sunderland forward Jack Clarke, Ajax attacker Steven Bergwijn (HITC, 9 January) and Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto.

West Ham

West Ham United have been superb all campaign long with their tremendous positioning in the table and their progress in the Europa League but this fresh news now leaves Moyes in a perilous situation.

The trajectory of the rest of the Hammers’ season now rests in Sullivan’s hands. He knows what to do, surely?

In other West Ham news, one player wants to leave the Hammers amid a £30million development.
