West Ham United breathe sigh of relief over Lucas Paqueta transfer amid Manchester City update
West Ham could be set for at least one more season with Lucas Paqueta at the London Stadium after the most recent update from Manchester City.
The current Premier League champions are known admirers of the Hammers’ creative spark, and it was reported that they would need to pay a fee of £100million in the summer. [SportBILD]
West Ham received a similar fee after Declan Rice signed for Arsenal last summer, which saw the likes of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus brought to the London Stadium.
Though there is proof that the grass can be greener on the other side, fans will be desperate for the club to keep hold of Paqueta during the summer transfer window.
The most recent update from the Etihad Stadium may have just given them the reassurance that the Brazilian might not be leaving just yet.
According to The Guardian [18 April], Man City are planning a “big push” to sign Bayern Munich’s Jamal Muisala this summer, with the 21-year-old said to be Pep Guardiola’s top target.
The Blues may have considerable funds at their disposal, but already under pressure surrounding their 115 FFP charges, the club are unlikely able to afford both Musiala and Paqueta.
West Ham United handed transfer boost over Lucas Paqueta
Though the 26-year-old’s form has dipped in recent matches, and his petulance against Bayer Leverkusen caused a lot of frustration, there are no doubts about his natural talent.
West Ham would certainly not be in the same position in the league without him, and probably would not have reached the Europa League.
In fact, the Hammers were given a taste of life without Paqueta when the midfielder was injured earlier this season. He returned in February to end an eight-match winless streak to star in a 4-2 win over Brentford.

Some may suggest that this was simply a coincidence but Paqueta adds so much quality to Moyes’ squad and helps Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus to fire on all cylinders in the final third of the pitch.
Man City signing the West Ham man could, not just be devastating for the London side, but pretty worrying for all the teams in the Premier League, especially if Musiala is signed too.
In other West Ham news, a free transfer could be on the cards for a Spanish international.
