West Ham transfer curse continues after what Luis Guilherme did at Sporting CP

West Ham continue to struggle with completing successful transfer business.

The Hammers had a busy January window, where the likes of Taty Castellanos, Pablo, Adama Traore and Axel Disasi completed moves to West Ham.

The jury is still out on these signings, with Castellanos featuring regularly for West Ham since his big-money move from Lazio.

There are plenty of signings from down the years who have failed to live up to the hype, with West Ham’s signing of Niclas Fullkrug being a recent example.

Luis Guilherme signed in the same summer as the German, and he continues to show just how bad the situation is at the London Stadium.

Luis Guilherme left West Ham in the January

West Ham signed Guilherme from Palmerias in 2024, but he never really had the desired impact in claret and blue.

Tim Steidten moved to bring the Brazilian in, but he has failed to hit the heights that the likes of Willian Estavao and Endrick have since a move to Europe.

That saw him limited to just 18 appearances for the Hammers, where he never managed to score or assist under a variety of managers.

His lack of form opened the door for the Irons to cash in when the January opened after the Portuguese giants Sporting CP made an offer.

West Ham got Guilherme off the books, and there weren’t many people associated with the East London club who could argue with that decision.

His actions at the Jose Alvalade Stadium have just highlighted the issues at West Ham which has seen so many signings fail over the years.

Guilherme scores first goal for Sporting CP

Guilherme couldn’t score a single goal in claret and blue despite appearances in the Premier League and FA Cup.

The youngster just never acclimatised to English football, and no manager ever fancied giving him a chance, so he can’t have impressed in training either.

Getting him off the books for around £14million seemed like a wise move, but he has already started to showcase some form at Sporting.

The 19-year-old grabbed his first goal in green and white on Thursday as the winger found the net in a 3-2 win against AVS Futebol SAD.

He cut in off the right and curled a pinpoint effort into the far corner, something which he never managed to do for the Hammers.

It is just further evidence of what is wrong with West Ham as so many talents have come in and out before going on to succeed elsewhere.
