West Ham to strike transfer agreement with Liverpool after Elliott admission

West Ham are expected to recruit Harvey Elliott to strengthen their midfield next season.

Elliott is a player that the Hammers have been keeping tabs on in recent months.

The Liverpool star has struggled for gametime at Anfield, alerting Graham Potter to his potential availability this summer.

And after Elliott’s latest admission, it seems a move is well and truly on the cards.

Elliott admits his ambitions could take him away from Liverpool

It has been widely reported that West Ham have taken active steps to open talks with Liverpool over Elliott.

The Hammers view the 23-year-old as a viable option this summer, and he could follow Kyle Walker-Peters to the London Stadium.

It was believed that the midfielder wanted to remain at Anfield for at least another season. However, with the arrival of Florian Wirtz, he could be forced to seek out a new challenge elsewhere.

Speaking to the Anfield Wrap (24 July), Elliott said: “I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. I want to keep being successful as a player.

“I think it’s still something I need to review. I need to have a talk with everyone, really and review the situation because we’ve had many new players come in, so whether it blocks the path for me, I’m not sure, it’s something I need to decide and have a look at.

“My main focus is here now. At the moment I’m here for the season, as far as I’m aware, unless anything changes, we have a busy pre-season, it’s non-stop, I need to make sure I’m focused on that and just be ready for everything.”

This will come as a huge boost to West Ham, who could use his comments as an incentive to reach a transfer agreement with Liverpool.

Elliott would be a good investment for West Ham

Potter will be looking to re-establish West Ham as a competitive side after a disappointing Premier League season.

The Hammers finished 14th during the 2024/25 campaign, having conceded the sixth most goals in the league. There is no doubt that improvement is needed, and Elliott could be a step in the right direction.

While the Englishman has struggled to become a regular starter at Liverpool, he could thrive under the correct coach.

He is well known for his versatile attacking play and can line up as an inverted winger or an attacking midfielder. In the modern game, where tactics and endurance are critical, having players who are comfortable in two or more positions is a must.

Furthermore, Elliott is a player who can generate high-quality chances for his teammates while latching onto those made for him. Thus, his proficiency as a creator and an attacker would make him a good investment this summer.
