West Ham to make Emerson mistake amid fresh Ben Chilwell development at Chelsea
West Ham could make a mistake by signing Ben Chilwell from Chelsea and displacing Emerson from the first team.
The Italian international has been a stalwart for the Hammers in recent years, making 47 appearances in all competitions last campaign.
The 30-year-old has continued his role in the starting XI this season with new boss Julen Lopetegui starting him in every league game so far, despite potential injury concerns.
With that being said, it could prove to be a mistake to bring in a new left back in January and limit the ex-Roma defender’s game time.
West Ham could make Emerson with Ben Chilwell
Despite already having Emerson and Aaron Cresswell at the club, the Irons have been linked with a move for Chilwell ahead of the January window [TBR].
The 27-year-old is said to be desperate to depart Stamford Bridge after being frozen out by new manager Enzo Maresca with West Ham an interested party.
Given that the Englishman hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football since 15 April, it would be a bizarre deal to bring him in.
That isn’t to say that the ex-Leicester City man doesn’t possess qualities which could prove to be useful but at £200,000 a week [The Sun], it is certainly a risky deal.

This deal is made all the more pointless when it is considered that a loan deal is likely which would just displace Emerson until the end of the season.
Given the service that the former Chelsea man has given at the London Stadium since signing, it would be a mistake to drop him so easily for a loanee.
In other West Ham news, a “quite serious” claim has been made after what one ace has done for his national side.
