West Ham set to learn Raheem Sterling fate as Chelsea talks scheduled

West Ham have been named as a potential landing spot for Raheem Sterling.

Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe remain West Ham‘s only two signings of the January transfer window, though the Irons are still looking for more.

Given the fact that West Ham have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, strengthening the backline has to be a priority, though more quality in the wide areas is also on the agenda.

Sterling has been linked with a move to the London Stadium as a result of that, with a decision to be made on his future soon.

Liam Rosenior set to hold Raheem Sterling talks

Axel Disasi has also been linked with a move to West Ham, with the Frenchman having been completely isolated at Chelsea this season.

Both he and Sterling had been left to train alone, fueling speculation that they could be moved on in the transfer window.

The duo cost the Blues a combined £89million in the 2023-24 campaign, and it’s fair to say that their impact hasn’t lived up to expectations.

West Ham have been linked with Sterling, as have several other Premier League outfits, and his fate is likely to be decided this week, with Liam Rosenior set to hold talks with him.

As quoted by BBC Sport, the Chelsea boss said: “I will have conversations with them. We’re in January, as you know.

“Raheem’s had an outstanding career. I’ve got huge respect for him. Axel is someone I’ve really, really liked as a player for a long time.

“Honestly, I have to have a conversation with them. I have to have a conversation with the club. I’m being genuinely honest. I literally have to work through a list of priorities. I will do in the next few days.”

Do West Ham really need to sign Sterling?

Throughout his time at Man City, Sterling was widely considered as one of the best wingers in world football, nevermind in the Premier League.

However, his move to Chelsea unravelled all of that, not that that is a particularly uncommon occurrence.

Even then, the 31-year-old registered 31 goal contributions in 81 appearances for the Blues, before then being shipped out on loan to Arsenal.

Sterling Stats

He has yet to feature in a single game for Chelsea this season, making it seem almost guaranteed that he would require a significant amount of time to get up to speed.

Given how little time West Ham have left to maintain their Premier League status, it would be a massive risk, and an expensive one.

A fit Sterling would be a huge addition for the Hammers, but this seems like it would be a mistake to pursue a deal.
