West Ham must give Conor Coventry opportunity with Declan Rice future in doubt

Young midfielder Conor Coventry is set to return to West Ham after spending impressive loan spells at Peterborough United and MK Dons.

West Ham could see a lot of changes to the side that played the Europa League semi-finals in the recently concluded season.

Mark Noble has already announced his retirement and Alex Kral is set to be loaned out again after a poor season away from Spartak Moscow.

With Declan Rice’s future uncertain, it looks like the ball will be in Coventry’s court. It remains to be seen how the West Ham management manages him.

The future of Rice in claret and blue remains a point of concern for the fans of the club as the question is where they can get a man to replace such a special talent.

One of the players who might be an ideal replacement for Rice is West Ham’s local talent Coventry who, if integrated into the first team, will bring ingenuity and solidity to the midfield.

Even though he would struggle to produce similar numbers to what Rice did recently, looking at his potential, he might not be the worse bet to fill the void if and when the England international will leave the club.

The 22-year-old made 20 League One appearances and 12 Championship appearances in 2021-22, providing a couple of assists and collecting only six yellow cards.

The young midfielder averaged 1.4 tackles and 0.9 interceptions in the recently concluded season for Peterborough United and MK Dons, respectively.

If now isn’t the time he is given his chance, he never will be given it.
