West Ham move for Becir Omeragic makes sense but it won’t be enough

West Ham United have approached FC Zurich for the availability of their defender Becir Omeragic, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The 20-year-old enters the final year of his contract and it is believed that the Swiss club is looking to consider offers for their defender.

According to the reports, the Hammers will be facing competition from AC Milan and Torino for the signature of the Swiss defender.

David Moyes wants to freshen his defensive options going into the new season after the hammers narrowly missed out on cementing their place in the final of the Europa League.

Talented Defender

Not many West Ham fans would have seen much of Omeragic play largely because of the competition he plays in.

But Moyes has a tremendous record of recruiting young players not just from the academy but across Europe. We may see the arrival of Omeragic as one of those signings.

The 20-year-old’s signing wouldn’t cost much to the London-based club as he has only one year left on his contract and would also be on low wages, a perfect scenario for a club like West Ham where the focus is on keeping the wage structure intact.

Considering the way in which West Ham conceded sloppy goals at the end of the season, especially in the Europa League semi-final, they can bolster their defence by signing the Swiss but it is hard to see if that would be enough, especially considering the difference in the level of Premier League football and Swiss league.

The right-footed defender played 28 games for FC Zurich across all competitions, creating one assist and receiving only four yellow cards [Transfermarkt].

This would not be enough though, and Nayef Aguerd has to remain the priority in terms of defensive reinforcements for now before this window officially opens.

In other West Ham news, another wide player Moyes is interested in has previous with the Scot and maybe the London stadium can be the arena for his career revamp.
