West Ham have to let bench-warmer Alex Kral join Montpellier amid interest

Czech Republic international Alex Kral is attracting interest from Ligue 1 club Montpellier as he struggles for game time at West Ham, according to Foot Mercato.

The 23-year-old has played just one minute of Premier League football this season and has only featured six times under David Moyes since joining the club from Slavia Prague in the summer.

He has been stuck in the midfield hierarchy behind Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek who have grown a solid partnership together and that has severely limited his chances of impressing the boss.

The Herault club are keen to add Kral to their own midfield options ahead of next season where they will be hoping to improve from their 11th place in Ligue 1, where they currently sit.

Kral has been the victim of David Moyes’ small squad in a roundabout kind of way with the manager unwilling to drop either of his star midfielders unless they are unavailable.

Even yesterday against Liverpool when Rice was ruled out through illness, Manuel Lanzini was dropped alongside Soucek and Nikola Vlasic brought in further forward.

There appears to be a worrying lack of trust from the manager to the player and the 23-year-old needs to get out of the club to prove his worth.

A year away in France next season might just be the perfect medicine for Kral whose time at the London Stadium will come to an abrupt end if he isn’t afforded some game time.

It would be a big shame given how excited fans were when he arrived but he has time to turn things around if the club allows him to.

In other West Ham news, Moyes shared a huge injury update on one of his star players after the 1-0 loss against Liverpool yesterday.
