West Ham have found their new Jesse Lingard, and the stats prove it

Jesse Lingard’s arrival in the second half of the 2020-2021 season helped propel West Ham into the Europa League, in what proved to be a masterstroke of a signing.

In that season, Lingard played 16 games, scoring nine goals and assisting five in the Premier League.

It was a sensational loan spell for the Englishman, with many expecting him to return to the London club for the next campaign.

Lingard explained why he snubbed West Ham, as he instead signed for Nottingham Forest, where he would not be able to match the impact he had for the Hammers.

Recently, West Ham returned the favour, snubbing Lingard, who has been linked with a return.

However, the club may already have a player who can have a similar impact.

Crysencio Summerville matches Jesse Lingard record with Burnley goal

West Ham needed to beat Burnley if they wanted to maintain hope of surviving relegation.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side certainly looked like they knew that to be the case, with an emphatic first-half performance at Turf Moor.

Crysencio Summerville scored the opening goal, and Taty Castellanos would later double the scoreline to secure a 2-0 win for the Hammers.

Summerville has been in tremendous form for West Ham and is quickly proving to be a key player for the club.

While his goal against Burnley was crucial, it also meant he became the first player to achieve a record that has not been attained since Lingard was at the club.

Summerville is the first West Ham player to score in five appearances in a row for West Ham since the former loanee’s performances across March and April 2021.

Summerville can keep West Ham up with current form

Over the winter window, Summerville has been linked away from West Ham but if his current form continues, letting him go surely cannot be considered in the summer.

At the rate he is playing, with six goal contributions in five appearances, he could be the key to Nuno keeping West Ham in the Premier League.

As Lingard had done in 2020-2021 with his goals and assists, guiding the Hammers to a sixth-place finish, Summerville could now have a similar impact but on the opposite end of the table.

The Dutch winger’s talents need to be nurtured, as he is clearly showing why he was signed in the first place.

It certainly provides added hope for the rest of the campaign.
