West Ham handed golden opportunity to sign Julian Alvarez

West Ham have been handed a golden opportunity to sign Julian Alvarez by River Plate’s vice-president Jorge Brito.

In an interview with TYC Sports, he revealed that the forward has a release clause that can’t be avoided.

That release clause has been reported to be £21.3million, so if the Hammers want him, they have a set price to reach [Corriere Dello Sport].

They were linked with a move for the Argentinian forward by El Intransigente, and it seems as if they could snatch him for just over £20million.

Now, given that the Irons need a striker, this could be a very wise move indeed, and he could be the man they need to help them through the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals for River Plate this year and has been capped by Argentina, so there is clearly some talent there.

He has also been described as “fantastic” by South American football expert Tim Vickery in the past, and the vice-president talks about him very highly indeed [talkSPORT 14 July 2021].

Of course, the Irons might prefer to go for a striker who has performed in Europe, but Alvarez should be worth a punt.

Daniel Kretinsky’s arrival means that the fee shouldn’t be a problem, and he could add some real unpredictability to this Hammers’ forward line.

Of course, there are other Premier League clubs interested, and you would imagine that this price tag could entice more to come forward [Calciomercato].

However, if the Irons act early and make an enticing contract offer, there is no reason why Alvarez can’t become an Irons player and contribute to the second half of the season.
