West Ham fans will be fuming with what Nuno Espirito Santo has said about new signing already
West Ham United are firmly in a Premier League relegation battle and Nuno Espirito Santo’s latest comments won’t have helped the mood around the London Stadium.
The Hammers are currently five points adrift of safety, and need to string together a run of good results to protect their top-flight status.
Nuno did manage to guide his side to a rare Premier League win last time out, as West Ham beat Tottenham 2-1 in North London.
It was actually a second successive victory for the East London outfit, after their 2-1 triumph over QPR in the FA Cup, but their squad is still in dire need of reinforcements.
Nuno Espirito Santo speaks out on new West Ham signing
West Ham had a busy start to the January transfer window, with both Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos making the move to the London Stadium.
Now, the Hammers have confirmed the signing of Keiber Lamadrid on loan from Venezuelan side Deportivo La Guaira.
Lamadrid is moving to West Ham until the end of the season, with an option-to-buy clause included in the deal.
However, Irons fans will have to wait to see the 22-year-old in action, as according to Nuno, he is not yet up to speed.
Speaking ahead of West Ham’s clash with Sunderland on Saturday, the Portuguese manager gave an update on the new arrival.
He said: “He’s a young player but he’s in pre-season and only finished his season at the end of last year. So he’s not really ready to play. We’ll assess him and see.”
West Ham need immediate improvements
It’s all well and good bringing in players to develop, but West Ham need signings that will come in and make an immediate impact.
Hammers supporters will be disappointed to learn that Lamadrid is not ready to be thrown straight into the Premier League, and that they will have to wait to see him in action.
The additions of Pablo and Castellanos are solid enough, with the latter grabbing his first goal for the club in the FA Cup win over QPR, but more quality is needed.
Nuno’s side are desperate for another centre-back to strengthen the backline, and if that position is not addressed before the end of the winter transfer window, then West Ham are in real trouble.
