Paul Merson has described West Ham’s clash against Sunderland as a “nightmare”, considering how up for it the newly promoted side will be upon their Premier League return.
However, supporters should be worried about the stat regarding West Ham’s miserable record on the opening day of the season.

Mads Hermansen will be hoping to buck this trend and keep a clean sheet if the shot stopper is handed his debut by Potter, but Roy Keane is not convinced by West Ham’s new signing.

West Ham have been tipped by some to be involved in a relegation battle this season.
If David Sullivan and Co. want to improve upon their underwhelming campaign, they must back Potter with more notable first-team additions.

The longer the window goes on, the longer it looks like the Hammers will enter the season with Niclas Fullkrug and Wilson as their options up front.
Whilst Fullkrug has been on fine goalscoring form in pre-season, fans will only be able to be cautiously optimistic after the German had a disappointing debut season in England.
