West Ham Fan Mailbag: Can the club sign Jesse Lingard?

Every week we’ll be asking West Ham fans on Twitter and Facebook for questions that will be answered by our correspondent, Jack Cunningham. You can join in by liking West Ham Zone on Facebook and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.

West Ham are flying at the moment, and they look like an excellent side who could give anyone a game.

They are fourth in the Premier League, through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and sit at the top of their Europa League group.

However, could things get better in January with one or two additions to help David Moyes’ side attack multiple competitions?

With that in mind, we asked for your burning questions on all things West Ham for our West Ham Zone correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one fan wanted to know if the club would sign Jesse Lingard.

Thanks for the question, Niall, and this is certainly something that could happen in January.

Lingard’s contract expires at Old Trafford in the summer, and he hasn’t played that much this season.

Last season, the 28-year-old was an unbelievable player for the Irons and played a huge role in getting the Hammers into the Europa League

The England international even admitted in an interview recently that the form he showed for the Irons was what he believes he can contribute when he is happy [The Players Tribune].

Now, we would doubt that there are many happier dressing rooms in the whole of Europe than that Irons one, so if Lingard needs to be happy, why doesn’t he make a return to the London Stadium?

The Red Devils will probably look to sell him in January, and the Irons have to be all over that and convince him to return [Sun].

Overall, I believe that Lingard has a very high chance of returning to play under Moyes in January.

So, this should be one to keep an eye on.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are targeting a new attacker in a £30m + transfer raid.
