Wolves stance shared as new Max Kilman to West Ham United transfer update issued
West Ham signing Max Kilman from Wolves won’t be easy.
It has been a busy summer thus far for the Hammers at the London Stadium.
They have already announced the signing of Luis Guilherme but also missed out on Fabricio Bruno.
As well as the two Brazilians the club have been linked with a host of other players and it looks as if it is set to be an action-packed first transfer window for Julen Lopetegui.
One player who the new West Ham boss is keen on signing is Kilman from Wolves, with Lopetegui having managed him previously during his time at Molineux.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (18 June), the Hammers are exploring a deal for the 27-year-old who is highly rated by his former manager.
However, just as has been the case with some of their other business this summer, a deal won’t be easy.
That is after Dharmesh Sheth reported via X (18 June) that while West Ham are expected to make a formal approach to sign Kilman, his current club want to keep hold of the player and are under no pressure to sell.
In addition, Kilman signed a new five-year contract at Molineux last summer and is Wolves’ current captain.
Will West Ham convince Wolves to allow Max Kilman to reunite with Julen Lopetegui?
This deal looks as if it could be very expensive and very time-consuming for the Hammers.
With Wolves under no pressure to sell Kilman, and with the centre-back locked into a long-term contract, it would likely take a substantial fee to convince them to part ways with the player.
West Ham certainly need defenders, that much was evident after their shocking performances at the back last season.
And Kilman would certainly be a quality signing.
However, it comes down to how long the club are prepared to wait. This looks as if it could be a deal which drags on long into the summer, and Lopetegui might want defensive reinforcements in place by pre-season.
If that is the case then they might need to look elsewhere.
Patience will be needed in their pursuit of Kilman, and supporters at the London Stadium will soon find out just how desperate the club are to sign him.
