West Ham could have actually signed Antoine Semenyo for just £15m in shock reveal

West Ham entered the international break with a spring in their step and will return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth.

West Ham’s 3-2 victory over Burnley on November 8 saw them record back-to-back wins for the first time under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Hammers have since watched several of their players flourish on the international stage, including Tomas Soucek, who wowed the Czech media with his performance against Gibraltar.

Nuno will now be aiming to register three wins in a row in the top-flight while propelling his side out of the bottom three when they travel to Bournemouth this weekend.

West Ham could have signed Antoine Semenyo for just £15m

Historically, the Irons have shopped in the Championship for some of the best talent, seeing the likes of Jarrod Bowen join West Ham from Hull City and Crysencio Summerville make the switch from Leeds United.

Bowen will go down as one of their best buys, costing the club around £20million, and so far scoring 77 goals and assisting 53 in 250 appearances.

But David Sullivan will kick himself knowing that West Ham could have signed Antoine Semenyo for £15m in 2022 when the Ghanaian was at Bristol City.

According to reports from March 2022, the Hammers were battling Celtic for his signature, although it was Bournemouth who captured him in January 2023 for just £10.5m, and the rest is history.

Semenyo has since become one of the Premier League’s best players, with many top clubs showing interest in his signature.

Annoyingly, the 25-year-old recently signed a new five-year contract which includes a £65m release clause, as per The Athletic, with West Ham missing out on the chance to pocket huge profits.

Semenyo is a doubt for West Ham clash

While West Ham supporters will wish Semenyo was part of their squad, he could be a doubt for this weekend’s showdown.

Semenyo started on Friday in an international friendly against Japan but was withdrawn in the 56th minute as Ghana fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Antoine Semenyo’s 2025/26 Premier League stats
11 appearances
6 goals
26% goal conversion
2.1 shots per game
3 assists
5.3 balls recovered per game

That saw Semenyo miss the Black Stars’ friendly against Japan on Tuesday (November 18) after being ruled out with an injury.

In a brief statement on their website, titled ‘Antoine Semenyo’s injury’, the Ghana Football Association said: “Left anterior talo-fibula ligament sprain, which was aggravated during the game against Japan.”

It remains to be seen whether the Cherries forward misses the fixture against West Ham this weekend, although it does seem likely he does.
