West Ham can resume loan interest in Hayden Hackney amid Middlesbrough uncertainty

West Ham could reignite their interest in Hayden Hackney in January.

Hackney has been a long-term target for West Ham after multiple seasons of impressive performances with Middlesbrough in the Championship.

The midfielder has been a regular at the Riverside, with Boro fan Bob Mortimer glad to keep Hackney after plenty of summer exit rumours.

West Ham showed interest in Hackney and Mateus Fernandes during the last transfer window, and could return to TS3 once the winter edition opens.

The Irons may look to Middlesbrough and the current tensions to swoop in and steal Hackney away from the second-tier outfit.

Rob Edwards could help West Ham sign Hayden Hackney

Guido Rodriguez could soon leave West Ham, potentially leaving the East Londoners with the need for another midfield option.

The Boro star could prove to be the ideal option should he wish to green-light a switch to the London Stadium in January.

The early-season form of Middlesbrough may have halted any chance of a move, with promotion a real possibility at this stage.

That could soon change with Rob Edwards set to depart the Riverside and complete a controversial switch to a doomed Wolves side.

Hackney could see his boyhood club as a sinking ship without a head coach involved, and take his chance to jump and land elsewhere.

West Ham would do well to provide him with regular minutes in the Premier League as a dynamic midfield option alongside the likes of Fernandes, Soungoutou Magassa, Lucas Paqueta and Freddie Potts.

West Ham could make loan-to-buy offer for Hackney

Back in August, West Ham hero Martin Allen suggested to West Ham Zone that a loan with an obligation to buy the midfielder could be hugely beneficial.

The Englishman is said to be worth upwards of £25million, so saving that outlay until the summer feels necessary for the Hammers.

It is unclear whether Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson would accept such an offer, but the Irons won’t know if they don’t try their luck.

The current unrest and uncertainty may prove to be the perfect storm for the claret and blue outfit to land themselves a top signing.

Hackney is the exact sort of profile that is needed in E20, so making a January swoop may turn out to be a wise move.
