‘We have to’ – These West Ham fans urge club to land ‘quality’ ace this month

West Ham have not exactly hit the heights that they were expected to in attack this season.

With record signing Sebastien Haller leading the line, it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to predict a glutton goals for the Hammers, but instead the Frenchman, and the Irons’ goalscoring threat writ large has staggered through the best part of the opening half of the campaign.

For his part, Haller has six goals in 17 Premier League matches, and the Hammers as a whole have 25 in 20.

Bearing that in mind, it’s understandable that the club are said to be in the market for more options to lead the line.

One name that is being bandied about is that of AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, with Sport Media Set reporting that the Irons are in pole position to sign the 24-year-old hitman this January.

That would represent a significant capture for the Hammers, especially in the middle of a season, but would he be worth the potential outlay?

It’s fair to say that the Pole hasn’t exactly set Serie A alight this term.

Four goals in 18 matches isn’t exactly prolific, and bearing in mind he has averaged 2.7 shots per game, as per Whoscored, it hints at a player who is quite wasteful in front of goal.

That being said, he is still only 24, and the hype surrounding him was incredibly high when he joined Milan from Genoa over the summer.

If he could recapture the form that saw him net 13 goals in 19 matches in Serie A last term, then he would no doubt be a very, very popular acquisition.

At this stage, however, West Ham need a forward they can rely on, and given how patchy he has been this term, Piatek may prove to be an expensive gamble too far for the board to sanction.

Here are some of the best reactions from fans who would still love him in East London though…
