Vladimir Coufal to bid farewell to West Ham United fans after Manchester City showdown

Vladimir Coufal could be set to make his final West Ham United appearance against Manchester City on Sunday (19 May) as his contract situation drags on.

The Hammers travel to the Etihad Stadium knowing that Pep Guardiola’s side will be desperate for three points to secure the league title.

Speaking to Sky Sports (19 May), Coufal has suggested that he wants to stop Man City from winning the league.

He said: “It would be a great story that West Ham can cancel the Manchester City hegemony. They can be the first team to win it four times in a row, so it would be nice to stop it.”

This would certainly be an achievement in what could prove to be his final game for the club.

Could West Ham United lose Vladimir Coufal?

Last month The Athletic reported (27 April) that his future at the London Stadium remains “bleak” due to his contract situation.

The Czech international has 12 months remaining on his current deal and he has “frustrations over his contract” which suggests that he may depart in the summer transfer window.

With that being said, if he plays at the Etihad it could prove to be his and David Moyes’ final game for the club.

Since his move from Slavia Prague, he has gone on to make 154 appearances for the Hammers across four seasons in the Premier League [FotMob].

This has seen him help achieve several European qualification finishes while also winning the Conference League last season.

With Ben Johnson also looking likely to be leaving this summer, the hierarchy at the London Stadium have to do their best to try and keep Coufal.

He has been an excellent signing and will prove to be a useful squad player under whichever manager comes in over the summer.
