Vincent Kompany shares new Josh Brownhill update at Burnley which will interest West Ham United
West Ham United only have one final Premier League game to play before they begin to look to the summer transfer window and a new era.
Julen Lopetegui appears ready to step in and replace David Moyes at the London Stadium and the suggestion has been that the former Wolves man has already begun talks over transfer plans ahead of the window.
The Irons have been linked with a whole host of stars, but one name reportedly on the radar is Burnley star Josh Brownhill, with reports suggesting the Hammers were keen to sign him on a free transfer [talkSPORT, 14 November].
Unconfirmed reports suggested the Clarets had moved to put breaks on such a move by activating a year extension in the midfielder’s contract [HITC, 11 April] and despite Burnley’s relegation, Vincent Kompany has confirmed that to be the case.
As quoted by the Burnely Express (17 May) Kompany confirmed Brownhill’s extension has been activated saying: “Yeah, I think so but I did give you the answer three months ago.
“We have a player here that is under contract who has been very important for us, so rumours…we’re used to rumours.”
Will West Ham United move to sign Burnley star Josh Brownhill this summer?
Whether or not Brownhill remains of interest to the Hammers now that Moyes will be leaving East London remains to be seen, but regardless of their plans, it seems as though a free transfer is now off of the table.
You would imagine that it wouldn’t take a huge offer to tempt Burnley into parting ways with the Englishman. Even with this new extension, he still only has a year left on his deal at Turf Moor.
The Hammers already have plenty of midfield options at their disposal with Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta all impressing at different times this season.

But with Kalvin Phillips and potentially Paqueta both moving on when the summer window comes to an end, there could be a void in the squad ready for Brownhill to come in and fill if the right deal can be struck.
While it is an early transfer blow for West Ham that a free move is no longer an option, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a deal to be reached this summer. This could be a move to keep an eye on as the season draws to an end.
