View: West Ham right to not offer new deal to Andriy Yarmolenko

Andriy Yarmolenko’s time with West Ham is coming to an end as he is set to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The Ukraine international’s current contract will end on June 30 and he will leave the London Stadium after spending four years.

While talking to Tribuna.com, Yarmolenko stated that one of the primary reasons for his departure was not getting enough game time.

“I want to play and enjoy football. In the last two or three years, I haven’t played as much as I wanted. I missed the game every week,” he said.

“I signed a four-year contract with an option to extend for another one. A year ago, it was clear that West Ham would not use this option because it is was big contract, and I do not play as much as a player who earns such money should.

“I’m also dissatisfied with my playing time. I want to play more, so I didn’t really want to extend my contract. For the London club, this is also, I think, not a very profitable deal.”

Disappointing end

Yarmolenko’s journey with West Ham was a rather disappointing one as he arrived with a big reputation having been a part of 12 goals with six assists and as many goals in just 26 appearances in the 2017-18 campaign.

The 32-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2018 from German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of £18million.

Since then, Yarmolenko represented the London-based outfit in 85 matches in all competitions where he managed to score 13 goals and provided seven assists.

In the ongoing campaign, the Leningrad-born winger played 32 times for West Ham and scored three goals along with providing a similar number of assists.

It was very clear that at the end of his time with the Irons, Yarmolenko has clearly lost trust of manager David Moyes.

It is because of this reason that despite being present in 34 matchday squads in the Premier League, the veteran winger managed to start just once, in the match against Chelsea on April 24.
