View: West Ham must sign Alphonse Areola before Fulham swoop in

West Ham needs to sign goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to a permanent contract before they miss out on the brilliant Frenchman.

The 29-year-old has been exceptional this season, never disappointing when called into action with his tie winning save against Sevilla at the London Stadium the perfect example.

David Moyes clearly rates the shot-stopper having backed him on several occasions and with Lukasz Fabianski nearing the end of his career aged 32, the Hammers must look to the future.

The Irons do have the option to make his east London contract permanent and if they don’t, his former club Fulham will steal him.

That’s according to Dean Jones who told GIVEMESPORT: “I know that Fulham’s main target will be Areola if they are to sign a goalkeeper, which they will because a goalkeeper is their priority.

“They’re just waiting to see if West Ham take up the option on Areola.”

Sign him up.

It is bewildering that the former PSG star is happy to sit on the bench given his talent.

Areola is a great goalkeeper as he has proven time and time again and he would be the number one for a lot of teams around the world.

West Ham certainly isn’t complaining, they have had a brilliant second choice keeper this season and the impressive displays he has shown warrant them signing him permanently.

They don’t come much better than him and he has already settled into life at the Hammers brilliantly, establishing himself as a key member of the squad both on and off the pitch.

Take nothing away from his career, he seems happy to essentially tour the world playing in some of the most glamourous cities in the world whilst playing his football and being handsomely rewarded for it.

That was the thought when he joined Fulham despite completely outclassing them in terms of talent.

He would be much better off still in London at a much better team where he genuinely has a future.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have slapped a mega £150million price tag on Declan Rice’s head.
