View: West Ham could receive big boost with latest Lyon injury news

West Ham are to receive a massive boost for their Europa League quarter-final second leg clash against Lyon on Thursday [April 14].

The Hammers are set to be without left-back Aaron Cresswell, following his red card with Kurt Zouma also potentially missing the clash through injury as per Evening Standard.

The Irons’ blow is likely to be softened with the Ligue 1 side facing their very own injury crisis.

Zouma’s 19th minute header cancelled out Spurs’ early opener and ensured a point for West Ham.

First-leg quartet Anthony Lopes, Tanguy Ndombele – who scored the equaliser at the London Stadium -, Houssem Aouar and Thiago Mendes are all doubts for the return fixture which will give David Moyes’ side massive confidence.

Advantage Moyes

This is great news for West Ham. Moyes faces a selection headache after Cresswell’s embarrassingly wrong sending off in the first leg as well as Zouma fighting a race against time to be fit for the clash despite it looking unlikely.

Therefore, Lyon potentially being without four of their regular starters eases the burden on the Scot.

In terms of team selection, the Irons certainly have the upper hand. Ryan Fredericks has benefitted from several impressive displays in recent weeks which will allow Ben Johnson to deputise at left-back as he has done successfully on several occasions.

Despite question marks surrounding the centre-back’s quality, Issa Diop has proved that he can come in and do a good job alongside Craig Dawson.

Whoever plays for the Hammers, will be right up for this one that is guaranteed. This is the biggest game in the clubs’ recent history and if they win it they could go all the way.
