Tony Cottee was right to ‘fear the worst’ after what he saw Nuno do as West Ham lost vs Brentford

West Ham’s result and performance against Brentford were nothing short of disastrous.

There was some positivity after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side drew 1-1 with Everton in the head coach’s first game in charge of the Hammers, but that has now fizzled out.

Nuno has been slammed after West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Monday night, with relegation now looking a real possibility this season.

Former West Ham striker Tony Cottee is as passionate and optimistic as they come, and even he couldn’t believe Nuno‘s team selection choices against Brentford.

Tony Cottee was shocked to see Jean-Clair Todibo and no El Hadji Malick Diouf

West Ham have a striker crisis at the moment, which led Nuno to start Lucas Paqueta as a centre-forward.

The Hammers only managed to have one shot on target, creating no big chances the whole game, as Nuno should have just gone for Callum Wilson up front.

Cottee, commenting on X, said, “Just seen the team. No CF again, Todibo at CH, no Diouf. I’m fearing the worst now.”

Jean-Clair Todibo‘s inclusion was a surprise, as Konstantinos Mavropanos started on the bench, as Nuno got it all wrong by not starting Malick Diouf.

Diouf should be one of the first names on the team sheet, and he is the man to thank for the only point secured so far in Nuno’s first three games.

Cottee, just as many other West Ham fans, had every right to be nervous heading into the game, as Nuno’s selections dearly cost the Hammers.

However, it’s now clear to see that one West Ham player’s time at E20 should go on no further after his showing against Brentford.

Todibo needs to be sold in January

Brentford were relentless against West Ham, and the stats prove it. Todibo was all over the place, and is a big reason why West Ham lost the game.

If it wasn’t for Brentford’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal, it could have been 4-0 or 5-0 to the Bees.

Todibo hasn’t impressed since arriving at West Ham, as the Brentford game should have been his last opportunity at the London Stadium.

The centre-back cost West Ham a fortune, and the Hammers may have to loan the Frenchman out, in hopes he can bump his transfer value before a potential sale.
