Tomas Soucek ‘to retire at London Stadium’ after what West Ham star said

Graham Potter has multiple long-standing servants at his disposal as he begins to rebuild the West Ham squad.

The former Brighton and Chelsea figure has had just a few weeks to work with the current players, having replaced Julen Lopetegui at the helm last month after a torrid time in East London.

Due to the change in managers, only Evan Ferguson was brought in as reinforcement during the winter transfer window, joining on a straight loan from the Amex Stadium.

While there are a few duds in the current squad, many of whom could soon be leaving the London Stadium in future windows, Potter has a lot of talent and loyalty to work with.

One of those players is Tomas Soucek, who joined the Hammers permanently in July 2020 and has since made 219 appearances, even scoring 34 goals in that time.

Tomas Soucek stays loyal to West Ham

The Czechia international is a much-loved figure at the London Stadium, and even if he is not the most talented player in the squad, his passion and love for the club does not go unnoticed.

Speaking to Dnes Prague [10 February], Soucek said: “The fact that my family has grown here is, of course, the main thing. But I’m also pleased that I’m so strongly connected to West Ham now and that they like me here.

“I wouldn’t have thought that we could do so much in five years.”

Supporters will love reading those words from the midfielder.

Midfielder to retire at the London Stadium

At 29 years of age, Soucek has plenty of years ahead of him, but given how openly he speaks about his love for the Hammers, it is difficult to see him playing anywhere else.

His exploits in the Premier League has helped him to become a regular at international level, boasting 77 caps for Czechia, and he knows how big a role West Ham have played in his career.

Only a handful of players stay loyal to football clubs nowadays but with Soucek, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio all still in East London, fans are incredibly lucky to see these figures keep fighting for the Hammers.
