Tim Steidten’s learned nothing as West Ham dud could join him at new club abroad
Tim Steidten is in talks to become sporting director at Wolfsburg in what would be his first position since leaving West Ham.
Steidten left West Ham in February after spending just over 18 months as the technical director in E20.
Signing ageing players who weren’t physically ready for the Premier League has been a long standing recurrence at West Ham, and that is mainly due to the recruitment of Steidten throughout his time at the London Stadium.
Steidten’s time at West Ham was disastrous, and the 46-year-old has now been linked to become the new sporting director at Wolfsburg.

Tim Steidten in talks to join Wolfsburg
Having previously worked with Werder Bremen and Bayern Leverkusen, Steidten was appointed by the Hammers in July 2023.
Steidten oversaw West Ham’s summer signings in 2024, but very few of his signings have proven to be successful ever since.
Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported via X on Thursday that Steidten is a candidate to be appointed as the new sporting director at Wolfsburg.
The recruitment strategy has been woeful across the last five years, and supporters will be disheartened to see the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford perform miles better than them in the Premier League.
That is, in large part, down to Steidten’s role at West Ham, and the German came in straight after the Conference League win in 2023.
Since then, it’s gone completely downhill, and the Hammers’ current status in the top flight is now under threat after years of poor decision-making from the board.

A West Ham star who has failed in E20 could also move to Wolfsburg, with a January move being touted as a potential option.
Niclas Fullkrug could join Steidten at Wolfsburg
Fullkrug has been disappointing for West Ham this season, and further injuries have harmed his long-term future at the club.
Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas reported via X on Thursday that Fullkrug could leave West Ham for Wolfsburg in the January transfer window.
Fullkrug has started West Ham’s first three Premier League games this season, but fitness issues and a lack of form in front of goal has contributed to his demotion in the pecking order.
Even when he is fit, he has been incredibly underwhelming, scoring three goals and two assists in his 27 appearances for the Hammers.
Should both Steidten and Fullkrug join Wolfsburg, it would be an amusing sight for West Ham fans who have clearly made up their mind on both of them.
