Tim Steidten to avoid West Ham United fallout with Niclas Fullkrug replacement in January

Tim Steidten is facing pressure at West Ham after overseeing a number of failed transfers ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

It is understood that, while Julen Lopetegui is facing the brunt of criticism from fans and media outlets, the technical director is under fire for the addition of striker Niclas Fullkrug.

The 31-year-old forward has made just three Premier League appearances, all as a substitute, and has not featured since August after sustaining an injury while on international duty with Germany.

After arriving from Borussia Dortmund on a £27million deal during the summer [BBC Sport], the frustration is a valid feeling among those at the London Stadium, and the blame ultimately falls at Steidten’s feet.

Now, with the January transfer window on the horizon, Steidten has the potential to push back against the criticism and bring a new striker to the club, one who Kylian Mbappe has dubbed “complete” [Metro].

The Hammers are one of the teams interested in signing Randal Kolo Muani in January, facing competition from Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal [TBR Football].

PSG are open to the striker leaving on loan once the winter transfer window opens, and Steidten can prove his credentials by signing the Frenchman on a six-month deal.

The 25-year-old looks to have been cast aside by the manager Luis Enrique this season, starting just two of PSG’s 10 Ligue 1 matches despite notching 12 goals and six assists in all competitions last term.

He is also a consistent performer on the international stage with the France national team, boasting eight goals in 25 caps for his country. It makes complete sense to bring him to the London Stadium.

If Steidten can make this move happen, it would certainly alleviate some of the pressure being fired at him by some disgruntled fans right now.
