Tim Steidten interest now surely piqued after what West Ham United target Omar Marmoush did
West Ham United must reignite their interest in Omar Marmoush after the free-kick he scored for Frankfurt against Slavia Prague in the Europa League.
The striker was way outside of the 18-yard box and his near-perfect strike sent the ball right into the top-left corner of the goal and was more or less unstoppable.
When it comes to strikers at the London Stadium, it feels like the Hammers have something of a curse.
One of their marquee signings in the summer was Niclas Fullkrug and since his arrival, he’s mostly been sidelined due to injury.
This has left Julen Lopetegui somewhat light upfront with just Michail Antonio and Danny Ings to lead the line and when their recent form is taken into account, it leaves a lot to be desired with the duo scoring just two goals between them thus far.
Over the summer many strikers were linked with a move to the London Stadium including Marmoush but nothing ever came to fruition.
With Fullkrug now out of action once again, it feels like West Ham have no choice but to sign another number nine in January, which is where the Egypt international comes in.
Why Omar Marmoush would be a stellar signing for West Ham United
Technical director Tim Steidten oversaw a heavy recruitment drive in the summer and it is fair to say that so far there have been plenty of misses to go with the hits.
But his interest surely must be piqued after what Marmoush did last night.
At just 25 years old, the striker has plenty of his career ahead of him and more importantly, doesn’t have a bad injury history.
While other Premier League sides such as Liverpool have been linked with the number nine since the Hammers’ initial interest in the summer, it feels like Lopetegui could offer the Egyptian a starring role in his side and allow him to lead the West Ham rebuild.
He’s found himself in solid form once again this season as he’s put away 13 goals in just 15 games. In fact, the striker has also chipped in with nine assists which shows his importance to the Frankfurt team.
One stumbling block in negotiations, however, is the fact that Frankfurt are set to demand between £41.57million and £49.89million to acquire the striker’s services which might be too steep of a fee for the Hammers to splurge due to their busy summer window.
If they can find the money, however, Marmoush would improve their starting XI tenfold and would likely help save the Hammers’ season, especially if his Bundesliga form carried over.
In other West Ham news, the club have made their decision on sacking Lopetegui regardless of the Everton result.
