Sunderland twist emerges in West Ham United manager chase as David Moyes fights sack

West Ham may now have to act quickly to hire Will Still ahead of Sunderland should they decide to sack David Moyes this summer.

The Scotsman faces an uncertain future once his contract runs out at the London Stadium and there signs of friction emerging between him and Tim Steidten already.

Still, who has been in the frame for the Hammers job, will be leaving Reims at the end of the season, and has a host of English clubs looking at him, including Sunderland.

Via Twitter, HITC journalist Graeme Bailey wrote: “Reims confirm that head coach Will Still has left the club and will not finish the season.

“Strongly linked with a move to England – the highly-rated 31-year-old won’t be short of options.

“Sunderland tried for him last year and remain keen.”

The Hammers will be a more attractive option for Still, given their established Premier League status, European appearances and riches, but their delay in making a decision could work in Sunderland’s favour.

The Championship club have already shown interest in Still and might be willing to offer him the control and support he desires.

If Sunderland act quickly and decisively, they could potentially outmanoeuvre West Ham in the race for Still’s signature.

The situation is further complicated by the friction that seems to be brewing behind the scenes at the London Stadium.

This could potentially impact West Ham’s decision-making process and the appeal of the position to a new manager.

In other West Ham news, the club have been handed a major boost in appointing David Moyes’ replacement as a manager has made his future intentions clear.
